Behavioral Health Work Team
BHWT Charter Statement:
Collaboratively, the Behavioral Health Work Team will contribute
to the improvement of the:
- Mental / behavioral health of the public; and
- Behavioral health services;
by augmenting existing and/or developing new programs (e.g.
behavioral health promotion, education and pilot projects) that
will strive to make significant, measurable impact to the
community.

Focus Areas
- Explore creation of effective collaborative interventions with
involved agencies to reduce inappropriate use of Emergency
Departments (ED) by high utilizers with behavioral health
issues;
- Advocate for improved coordination between mental and physical
health services and identify one action where we could facilitate
improvements at the "margins"; coordinate with Healthy Families
& other organizations efforts in this area;
- Edify & support BHWT partners by providing a forum for
information gathering and sharing along with opportunities for
collaboration.
Sub-Committee Focus Areas:
Independent Living Facility
Registry: Together with the Independent
Living Association, the BHWT is creating a database of the
Independent Living Facilities in SD County to better coordinate
care and develop standards for independent living sites and a
referral program.
Depression
Screening: BHWT collaborated with other
organizations from San Diego County, to offer free depression
screenings during the week of October 3-8, 2011. During this week,
residents of San Diego County over the age of 18 had the
opportunity to visit specific sites to receive a free, anonymous,
depression screening; learn about the signs and symptoms of
depression, anxiety disorder, postpartum depression, as well as
other topics that relate to depression.

Information:
The BWHT meets monthly on the second Thursday of each month
from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. at the new CHIP Offices (9370 Chespeake
Drive, Suite 220, San Diego, CA 92123). The full BHWT
Committee meets every other month and sub-committees meet during
the odd months.
